Introduction
In the Schaeffler Engineering Challenge, you can prove your
technical expertise and win some brilliant prizes along the way. The Engineering
Challenge I starts on 18 May 2009 and ends on 19 July 2009. You can get involved
at any point during this period. The Challenge is open to anyone who enjoys solving
technical problems — all it takes is a quick registration and you are ready to go.
The Schaeffler Engineering Challenge I consists of two parts played independently
of each other:
Challenge
The challenge contains ten questions selected at random from
various technical areas. You have until midnight on 19 July 2009 to answer all
the questions. The questions become increasingly difficult as you progress through
the levels. Level 1 to level 9 are multiple choice questions, i.e. you must pick
the correct answer from several suggested answers. A correct answer takes you to
the next level. However, if you pick one of the wrong answers, you are eliminated
from the present challenge. Therefore, it is worth thinking through, researching
and checking your answers. To do that, you can leave the program at your leisure.
When you log in again, the same question will be available for you again. If you
reach level 10, you can definitely call yourself one of the best! Here, we expect
a freely formulated and outlined solution to the problem posed. If this passes the
test of our expert team, you will be entered into the fantastic prize draw. Whatever
the outcome, we hope you have lots of fun. And if you don't quite make it, there
will certainly be another challenge — and in addition, there's still the weekly
question!

Weekly Question
During the whole duration of the Engineering Challenge I,
you can answer one technical question per week and earn points — regardless of whether
you are still in the Challenge or not. You have one week to answer each question
(from Monday 0.00 to Sunday 24.00). For each correct answer, you are credited with
1000 points. If you are not sure of the answer, you can use a "lifeline". Two of
the incorrect answers are removed but you must answer the questions immediately.
If you then answer correctly, you only get 500 points. Whether you answer the question
correctly or incorrectly, with or without a joker, your weekly question account
is paused until the beginning of the next week. Then the process starts all over
again. Once the Engineering Challenge is completed, the weekly question prizes are
drawn between all the participants who have earned at least 75% of the maximum number
of total points and who are in the top 30% of all participants. In addition, the
top ten participants each receive an extra prize.
